On 3 June 2014, Rick Cottam announced that he would stand down as President of the ICTY Staff Union on 30 September 2014.
Thereafter, the Staff Union Committee, as provided for in the Staff Union constitution, opened the floor for representatives to express their interest to stand for election.
Three candidates put forward their names, one of whom withdrew in the course of the weeks deliberations.
A secret electronic ballot was held on 1 July, resulting in a majority for Fraser McIlwraith.
In the coming months, Fraser, a long serving SU representative, will work alongside Rick to ensure a smooth and effective handover at the end of September.
